At our school, we aim to inspire curiosity, develop scientific thinking and encourage children to explore the world around them through engaging, practical and enquiry-based learning. We follow the National Curriculum for Science and use the highly regarded Kapow Primary scheme to support the delivery of high-quality science lessons across the school.
Through our science curriculum, pupils build a secure understanding of biology, chemistry and physics while developing essential investigative and problem-solving skills. Lessons are carefully sequenced to ensure knowledge and skills progress year on year, enabling children to make meaningful connections in their learning.
Using Kapow Primary, children are encouraged to:
Ask questions and think scientifically
Plan and carry out investigations
Observe changes and patterns
Gather, record and interpret data
Use scientific vocabulary confidently
Apply their learning to real-life contexts
Our science curriculum promotes curiosity, resilience and independence, helping pupils to understand the importance of science in everyday life and the wider world. Lessons include a range of hands-on activities, discussions, experiments and opportunities for collaborative learning, ensuring science is engaging and accessible for all learners.
We also aim to develop children’s awareness of environmental issues, sustainability and the role science plays in shaping the future. By the end of their primary education, pupils will have gained the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to continue their scientific learning at secondary school and beyond.
