At our school, we believe that all children can succeed in mathematics. We aim to develop confident, resilient and enthusiastic mathematicians who are able to apply their skills to a range of real-life situations. To support the delivery of our maths curriculum, we use the White Rose Education scheme alongside the National Curriculum.
Our maths curriculum is designed to build fluency, reasoning and problem-solving skills through carefully structured and progressive learning. Concepts are taught in small, manageable steps to ensure children develop a deep and secure understanding before moving on to more challenging ideas.
Using the White Rose approach, pupils are encouraged to:
Develop fluency in number and calculation
Explain and justify their mathematical thinking
Solve problems using a range of strategies
Make connections between different mathematical concepts
Use mathematical vocabulary accurately and confidently
Apply their learning to practical and real-life contexts
Lessons incorporate a range of representations and practical resources to help children visualise mathematical concepts and deepen understanding. Teachers use questioning, discussion and collaborative activities to encourage children to reason mathematically and think critically.
We recognise the importance of mastering key mathematical skills and ensuring children feel confident and supported in their learning journey. Through challenge, exploration and perseverance, pupils develop a positive attitude towards mathematics and understand its value in everyday life.
By the end of their primary education, children will have developed the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to succeed in mathematics at secondary school and beyond.
